They all stood stark still as they listened to his foot steps, his sharp knife, glinting in the bits of sun through the rain. The woman’s gold dress now drenched in blood and staining the ground beneath her a dark burgundy.
“He’s back!” she yelled. “He’s back! RUN!”
And they did. They ran as fast as their small feet could take them. With each step they took, their fear grew and their trembling deepened.
“Where are we going?” the little girl quivered with baited breath.
“We need to hide, somewhere, anywhere,” the boy answered with his own tremble.
A deep brush came up ahead and as the boy looked behind him he noticed that the man with silver hair wasn’t following. Or at least that’s what he could see.
“There!” the boy whispered hoarsely and pointed to a rock cave. “Let’s hide in there,” he finished as they ran faster and lower to the ground. The rock cave was only a few feet in front of them. Only a few more weak strides and they would be safe.
They came to the edge of the opening and the boy moved aside for the girl to enter first. Her feet sloshing on the muddy floor of the cave and slipping on a sharp object.
“What is that?” she whimpered as her fingers reached out for the object. She wrapped her fingers around the pointed , but limp object, bringing it to her face so she could see it properly.
“Ahhhh,” she screamed as she dropped the still flesh covered human finger.
